There are places you visit… and then there are places that change you.For me, that place is Passalacqua — a 24-room boutique hotel resting quietly along the shores of Lake Como, Italy, where history, craftsmanship, and timeless Italian beauty come together in one breathtaking experience.

🏛 A Villa with a Story

Passalacqua’s story begins in the late 1700s when Count Andrea Lucini-Passalacqua commissioned

architect Carlo Felice Soave to design a grand summer villa.Over the centuries, it’s hosted iconic guests — from composer Vincenzo Bellini, who wrote La Sonnambula here, to Winston Churchill and even Napoleon Bonaparte.

The estate was later restored by the De Santis family, owners of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, and transformed into what many now call the most beautiful hotel in the world — where every inch tells a story and every sunrise over Lake Como feels cinematic.

🎨 A Masterclass in Design

From the moment you walk in, Passalacqua feels more like a home than a hotel — though perhaps the most exquisitely designed home imaginable.

  • 24 unique rooms spread across three historic buildings: the Villa, the Palazz, and Casa al Lago

  • Murano glass chandeliers that shimmer like jewelry above 18th-century frescoes

  • Original stucco work and gilded mirrors preserved through centuries

  • Lush gardens, fountains, and a private jetty offering the dreamiest views of Lake Como

Every detail feels intentional — a harmony between past and present, luxury and soul.

🪞 Design Lessons to Bring Home

Even if Lake Como isn’t in your immediate travel plans, there’s so much inspiration inside Passalacqua that can translate beautifully into your own home design.

1️⃣ Let Architecture Lead

Instead of covering up what’s old, celebrate it. Crown molding, antique flooring, and even small architectural quirks add character and warmth.

2️⃣ Mix Eras Thoughtfully

Pair ornate pieces with modern simplicity — a vintage mirror over a clean-lined console, or a tufted chair beside a sleek marble table.

3️⃣ Play with Texture and Light

The way light dances across marble, silk drapes, and Venetian plaster walls creates visual layers. In your own space, use reflective surfaces and soft fabrics to achieve the same depth.

4️⃣ Blur the Line Between Indoors and Out

Passalacqua’s terraced gardens are an extension of its interiors. Add greenery, natural textures, and open windows to bring the outside in — even if it’s just a patio or small balcony.

💭 Why I’m Obsessed

Some people have niche obsessions with music or fashion… mine is boutique hotels — especially the ones that treat design as an emotion.Passalacqua isn’t just a place to stay; it’s a feeling. The kind of place that reminds you why thoughtful design matters — because it changes how we live, rest, and connect.

If you’re an interior design lover, traveler, or simply someone who believes that beauty belongs in the everyday, Passalacqua will speak directly to your soul.

🌿 Final Thoughts

Passalacqua is more than just a hotel — it’s a love letter to Italian craftsmanship and timeless design.Whether you visit one day or simply take inspiration from its elegance, it’s proof that true luxury lies in the details, the history, and the way a space makes you feel at home.
